Citizenship

Ready to apply for citizenship?

The application, a check of your trips and record, practice for the English and civics test, and a lawyer at the interview.

Most residents can apply after five years, or three if married to a citizen and living together. Before you pay the government's fee, we check the dates, your trips abroad and anything on your record, so you know where you stand.

What this covers

  • Application for naturalization (Form N-400)

  • Practice for the English and civics test

  • Fee waiver and reduced-fee screening

  • Disability exceptions to the test (Form N-648)

How it goes

From the file to the oath

What happens, and who does what.

  1. 01

Step 1: Dates and history check

Time as a resident, trips abroad, taxes and any record, reviewed before you file.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Study plan

Weekly practice questions by text or video, so the test feels familiar.

  3. 03

    Step 3: File and wait

We file the N-400 and track the notices, including your biometrics date.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Interview and oath

A lawyer goes to the interview with you. The agency schedules the oath ceremony.

The fee

How the citizenship fee works

One flat fee for the application and the practice.

  • Citizenship application

Form N-400, test practice and a lawyer at your interview. The disability exception form is quoted separately.

    • Dates and record review

    • Form N-400 and evidence

    • Weekly test practice

    • A lawyer at the interview

  • Replace a certificate

Form N-565 for a lost, stolen or damaged naturalization certificate.

    • Form N-565 and photos checklist

    • Filing and tracking

Government filing fees are paid to the agency, not to us, and the agency changes them. We confirm the current amount in writing before you file.

Good to know

Before you apply to naturalize

Do I have to pass an English test?

Most applicants take an English test and a civics test. Some older or disabled applicants qualify for exceptions, and we check at intake.

Will a ticket or an arrest stop me?

Not always, but tell us everything. Some records matter and some don't, and we review them before you file.

Do my children become citizens when I do?

Often, children under 18 who live with you as green card holders become citizens automatically. We check each child's situation.

Ready for a price in writing?

Tell us what you need. We'll reply with the filing, the fee and what to gather.

The first call or text is free. Government filing fees are separate.
